SNES bluetooth controller, modded from an MSI BGP100

Posted on August 24 2010

This was an interesting project - was asked to rehouse a BGP100 bluetooth controller into a SNES controller as the BGP100 was a full featured buetooth device but the buttons and controls "needed improvements". This is the result!

you know what would be funny… change a Wii remote to work as a SNES Zapper lol

if you could hook that up to as a game cube port on a wii would be great for emulation

i use the wireless dual shock 3 controller for snes emulation on my mac, d-pad isn’t as good and can cause blisters. if you sold these already converted on ebay i would buy one. do you have any plans on creating a n64 bluetooth? there would be more demand for that, as it’s impossible to be satisfied with the button map layout on a playstation controller.

@MODDEDbyBACTERIA … LMAO!!! Some people are dumb. LOL.

No idea, although if you want bluetooth on a PS3, can’t you get official controllers for that?

  6. llsmith56 says:

    does it work on ps3

FYI – making another one – see my forum – doing it differently this time, just a bit! ;o) Also, on my forum, the buyer of the other controller is going to upload his review of it in the next days.

If you used the guts of a Wii bluetooth controller you could house it into another controller of similar or larger size, but why bother – apart from the official 64 controller, all the other Nintendo controllers are excellent anyway!

  9. mattixface says:

no … I get you!.. haha!…. so is it possible to make one of those bluetoothed to the wii?… and if so… what about a 64 controller?

  10. MODDEDbyBACTERIA says:

Indeed. Reason being my SNES emulator has lots of graphic issues, MAME looks georgeous although not compatible (silly, even Windows Notepad works with the controller, but not MAME), the MegaDrive emulator works but a bit juttery on graphics. I’m not a fan of emulators as you may have gathered; however, the one that worked best was the MegaDrive one, so used it for the demo.

wait you played a SEGA game to demonstrate a super nintendo controller?…

I really wanna do this for a NES controller. Perhaps the one extra button won’t do any harm.
    Thanks for the inspiration

Thanks. There was some space in the underside of the controller alongside the BGP100 board, however the rest of the case was literally crammed to the gills, even had to move a couple of small wires so the case would shut properly rather than bowing slightly. The result is that it closes totally, and fine.

Had to use kynar wire in places, as well as regular wire. Next time I make one i’ll probably use kynar wire for all but power lines on this.

    Perhaps testing it’s market appeal?

  16. blueidesign says:

@MODDEDbyBACTERIA ya it certainly is tight for space in there, you did a fantastic job tho

  17. MODDEDbyBACTERIA says:

You may well be right; also they could make a proper one then, with improved data rate speeds, etc. I, like millions of others, like (most) of their controllers.

  18. MODDEDbyBACTERIA says:

Would certainly be tight to put a tiny push on/off button in there as the BGP100 board is alongside the position. Also, likely to press that instead of Start in error. The LED could be probably relocated and glowing through the cable hole, however, desoldering such a small component from the board could damage it and could render the board useless; hence I didn’t – not worth the risk. Furtunately, the middle of the SNES is a perfect place for the LED to shine through the back, as I did.

@MODDEDbyBACTERIA But they DID make a SNES “classic” controller for the Wii. For some reason, it was a member rewards exclusive, and was never sold directly despite its popularity.

@MODDEDbyBACTERIA I think that if Nintendo Marketed it right, PC/Wii (S)NES controllers would make a fortune. It could even get Nintendo’s new audience to purchase more from them instead of just the Wii console.

  21. blueidesign says:

@MODDEDbyBACTERIA ya thought of that after i posted it, you could get one of those tiny on off push switches tho. also a cool place to put the light would be the hole where the cable of the snes was, would be handier to see without having to look at the back. would love to make an nes 1

  22. MODDEDbyBACTERIA says:

Actually, that isn’t a bad idea in principle, however, would be a push button as needs to be an on/off switch not momentary switch.

  23. MODDEDbyBACTERIA says:

Indeed – a NiMH AA battery is the same size, so the battery is interchangable, and easy to put in a charging port; only thing is I don’t know if the BGP100 needs 1.5v or can run ok on a NiMH cell (1.2v – although in practice, anything from about 1v-1.6v). I’m not happy with NiHM cells BTW, I have lots at home and they don’t hold charge for long!

  24. MODDEDbyBACTERIA says:

Sell, yes, however in their millions to make it worth Nintendo’s investment and reward? I am sure if it were worth their time they would have done it by now, they are an awesome company after all.

  25. MODDEDbyBACTERIA says:

Slight lag, which you can see in the video on the part I had the controller near the PC screen and it showed the buttons being pressed and when they appeared on the screen. That is down to the bluetooth however. Once you have played on a game for a couple of minutes however, your brain seems to get used to making allowances for the small lag though.
